Given the fact that this 'Triple Frontier' sort of role is one of those cross-over films which attempts to address multiple cultures and contemporary issues as the complexity of modern day living, one would imagine that it is likely to have epic value and global proportion which would finally lead John to academy level recognition. In short, 'Sleeping Dogs' or 'perros el dormir' would seem to be offering a bankable niche.
The truth is that such films are are often 'back door' entries to the academy through what turn out to be supporting roles given how much of the good acting ends up on the academy floor if you will.... Its really all about who is in charge of the editing and who is the producer. Given the fact that someone has to play the fall guy and someone is going to look really good when all is said and done.... nominations are no guarantee that the script will hold any pivotal moments or options for poignant character revelation.
Playing contrasting leads is certainly tempting but the more stereotypical the character and the setting, the less chance there is that the actor will break out of the 'mould' to measure some sort of depth. Some formulas begin to hurt the hollywood regulars or at least blind them to the greater value and opportunity which can be defined when truly going cross culture such as when the people of a culture see themselves and their individuated standards as far beyond the 'monoculture' diatribe which is inherent in industry.
My hope is that John thinks about this kind of situation and decides for himself if the character offers some latitude for delivery.... I have decided to offer is a much better 'cross-over role' for John to consider as historically correct representation of a man who might have changed history with his writings and his belief in the dignity of a people... namely the latin people at a point in history which it was possible and this stereotypical 'drug runner' culture might not have limited the indigenous tribes to indentured servitude.
The role is called 'El Inca' and its specifically about a spaniard descended from a noble race and recognized as a true scholar... this is the sort of role that would be widely accepted by the Latin and Hispanic people with open arms and which someone like Jennifer Lopez would gladly put her money behind so that she might play the Queen of Spain as a bid to step up her game as a mature Latin in future roles to the global market.... My money is on the smart art here.... John should do his own thing and not get sullied through the mud and blood of the old soft shoe of Hollywood's formulaic successes.

and you also weighting the options, balancing the effects of public opinion with this "I have decided to offer is a much better 'cross-over role' for John to consider as historically correct representation of a man who might have changed history with his writings and his belief in the dignity of a people." (I'm stumped on what to say here, there are so many words that come to thought, words that could be expressed in great compassion, feeling, emotion, ahh the words might have changed history..and I will just say yes..)

Thank You Mr. Twain... I can embrace the soul of your vision here... let me also offer the contrast point to my initial statement on the first page which seems optimistic... giving Bigelow the nod and all...
The real point of getting the golden guy here is that if you seen Bigelow's film style and understand that Hank's has always pulled the award even when casted with several leads then you will know that the role is going to be tightly portrayed the way he wants it portrayed so that he can act his method off of it... the only person who ever won an award along side Hanks in a production was Gary Sinise and he had to get his legs cut off to do it.... Look at Gary now... back on Television and no films in site.... take it for what it is...
Its an industry film about drugs and no matter what kind of bad guy they ask John to play or what sort of corrupt partner role he is offered or cast into there will be a more ethical and longer living partner in Hanks... We may as well see Hanks as the new John Wayne or Robert Mitchem when it comes to playing out any of these war movie roles. Bigelow is very much of the staunch industry director who gives no allowance for character either... look at Hurt Locker... for all the awards given in that film not a single one was for an actor and clearly every one of her 'justice' themed movies thrives on the verity of police authority... even in the case of 'Strange Days' which I consider to be her best movie....
As for the Bale and Batman considerations associated with Depp, Nolan has already basically indicated that Riddler is someone else's game as far as I can tell and the real the point of John accepting the role of Riddler would be scripting/characterization... if they want him to wear tights he is just not gonna do it...
Generally you will find I disagreeessments lean towards allowing for consistency as opposed to long shots.... If there is a way to pull a long shot and twist the option well into ones favor I can see value in it... Burton is my dark horse in most instances simply because he understands the irony and the agony of production
Again .... I just want to say that you are apprecated humble one... lovely to share such good sentiments with you on this ....

Formally Introducing myself, as Mark twain - and (Humble).. Glad to make your acquaintance theeradicaleclectic :-) I signed up at this board several weeks ago, I intended to gather any information on the upcoming Dark Shadows project, (as I have special Interest in this project)-I never thought I would make my first post, I'm just not the type of person that has words for everything, Thoughts yes, words they come by emotion, so when my words are projected I mean them with heartfelt emotion behind them,
I'll start with this- "Again .... I just want to say that you are apprecaited humble one... lovely to share such good sentiments with you on this" ...
-and with that being said by you, I wanted to share that as I have wandered through the board here I couldn't agree with you more on so many of your post, it's as if the words connected with me as if I had said them myself....
I felt compelled to at least project my emotion and thought on this, and thank you for feeling my soul and vision on this..
You saying "Burton is my dark horse in most instances simply because he understands the irony and the agony of production" ...- I feel this as well, Burton is a magnificent Director, I feel a feeling of accomplishment as he moves along in his visionary world, I don't know how exactly how I would like to end this with Burton but I would like to say, his vision is felt..
so, I can't add anything more to what you have just posted except ...I agree..
